KAALSARPA YOGA Saying you have Kaalsarpa yoga in your horoscope and stating very negative effects for the same is a surefire way to get a lot of unnecessary poojas / shanties etc. done. The other key words for scaring people are Pindishraddha and Pitru dosha. Let us first of all see if this yoga exists. Parashar and Varahamihir (the Godfathers of Vedic astrology) have not even mentioned Kaalsarpa yoga. The only yoga mentioned is Sarpa yoga (Please note that Kaal and Sarp are two different ‘Devtas’ – Gods – but have been clubbed together for effect by money making pundits). The other sages including Kalyanvarma, Badrayana, Gargeya have all talked about Sarpa yoga but not a word about Kaalsarpa. In all the 32 yogas in the Pramukh Yogas mentioned in the Saravali by Kalyanvarma, the Dreshtha, Shreshtha, Rishi and Acharya are mentioned but again, the list does not even consider the aspects which are supposed to make the Kaalsarpa Yoga (all planets getting locked between Rahu and Ketu). Let us assume there is such a yoga – in that case the parihar or pooja the pundits do is also wrong. Rahu’s adhidevta is Kaal and pratyadhi devta is Sarp while Ketu’s adhidevta is Chitragupta and pratyadhi devta is Brahma. When these pundits perform the pooja / havan / shanti / homa (whatever you want to call it), they only do a pooja of Sarp and Chitragupta and Brahma are completely ignored. Hence even the parihar is not technically sound. Even the ultimate grantha – the Bhrigu Samhita – does not mention the Kaalasarpa yoga. Now what is a Sarpa dosha? When the 5th house of the horoscope (Santatisthaan) has Mangal’s rashi (i.e. Mesha or Vrishchik) and is occupied by Rahu, Sarpa dosha is said to exist. It has many exceptions and other yogas which affect it. Since Rahu is involved, prayer of Rahu as per the Navagraha Stotra by Ved Vyaas rishi given down below Ardha kayam mahaviryam; Chandraditya vimardanam also these prayers given below can also help Om dhum ram raavahe namah; Om bhram bhreem bhraum sah raahave namah It is important that these be recited everyday by the person him/herself and gives tremendous relief. Similarly as per the Lal Kitab, the feeding of dogs also helps. Understanding what Lord Dattatreya is will help. Lord Dattatreya is the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. ‘Datta’ means ‘to give’. The trinity gave themselves in the form of a son to sage couple Ari and Anusuya. He is the son of Ari, hence the name Areya. The four dogs around Him are supposed to represent the four Vedas but in the aghori tradition of Dattatreya (before Gorakhnath modified it into the Naath pantha, the form practiced today) the dogs represented Rahu and hence feeding of dogs was appeasement of Rahu. This is also appeasement to You could feed the dogs yourself or alternatively use the charity bins outside places like the SPCA and / or animal shelters to drop sacks / tins of dog food. You could also arrange for a friend / relative in countries like Fiji or India to feed dogs on your behalf – fortunately, there is no lack of stray dogs (desperately in need of food) in these countries. Say the prayers yourself, feed the dogs and you will have done the parihar. Lord Rahu will be pleased as will be the other Gods and you need not worry about the so-called Kaalasarpa yoga. Incidentally, the late Dhirubhai Ambani’s (Reliance Indiustries )horoscope was said to have the alleged Kaalasarpa yoga. He did not perform any shanti / parihar / appeasement. |
