JUPITER IN THE TWELVE HOUSES — BY CAPT SHEKHAR VADKE

This article deals with the position of Jupiter in the various (twelve) houses of the Kundali (Lagna Kundali or Birth Chart).
The influence of the Jupiter would be of the more permanent nature than the influence of transitional Jupiter as explained in the subsequent article. JUPITER is a benefic planet which showers its beneficence on the native when well-placed in the horoscope. Jupiter in different houses gives results of a differing nature which may be good or bad depending upon the nature of sign involved.

First House
The first house represents physical appearance. Jupiter in the 1st house is considered auspicious as it aspects besides the 7th, the 5th and 9th houses, the two Dharma Trikonas also that link the native’s past and present Karma.
It gives very good results when placed in fiery signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and also airy sign Gemini as well as the watery sign Pisces. Its placement in own Rasi of Sagittarius and Pisces enables one to overcome all problems while in Cancer it brings problems repeatedly. Jupiter in fiery Aries, Leo and Sagittarius gives repeatedly good results
in life and makes one good natufed and amicable. Such natives, if in the judiciary or if singers or poets, attain a lot
of popularity.
Jupiter in Taurus, Virgo and Libra as Ascendant enables one to have a lot of wealth while those with Capricorn or Aquarius with Jupiter in Lagna suffer from false prestige and ego. The native may either have good progeny or wealth. In Cancer and Scorpio, Jupiter makes one cruel and short-tempered. Airy signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Ascendants with Jupiter make one contented and fearless having no financial problems. However, Jupiter in the
Ascendant deprives the native of one of the parents in childhood. Though auspicious in the Ascendant, such a
Jupiter does give problems which are bearable.

Second House
The 2nd house represents family, as well as wealth, besides speech. Jupiter in it may not always be favorable for giving wealth. However when placed in the airy signs of Gemini or Libra or in Capricorn and in case conjunct malefic Mars, it creates problems in speech. When in the fiery signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, one is likely to go against the wishes of his seniors as well as peer group. Jupiter in earthy signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn deprives the native of adequate wealth. Jupiter in a female sign for a male sign Ascendant may deprive the native of progeny. Jupiter in the 2nd deprives one of parental blessings nor can the native’s father make use of the native’s wealth. Such a Jupiter is not favorable for native’s education which may remain incomplete. One’s own kith and kin may oppose one. In Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius in fixed signs, it brings many problems and opposition. Jupiter in the fiery sign of Aries or Sagittarius and airy sign of Gemini, Libra or Aquarius normally gives good results.

Third House
The 3rd house is considered as the house of co-borns (younger) as well as courage. It is a common belief that any benefic in the 3rd and even the benefi c lord of 3rd loses its beneficence. Jupiter in watery Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces in a female sign always gives bad results. Its placement in a male sign is not favorable for studies which remain  incomplete. However in the earthy signs of Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn, it enables the native to complete his education. One with Jupiter in the 3rd quarrels with brothers but never goes to the courts. If in a male sign, the native earns livelihood by serving others and not by any independent occupation. One would have an elder brother but not a sister. Jupiter in a female sign gives younger brothers and sisters. When placed in Aries or Leo or Gemini, Libra or Aquarius, one though not well educated would be known as learned and also have learned friends. If a female sign, the native would be learned person but not a popular one. In case a government servant, one may seek premature retirement and have either status or money but not both. Jupiter in 3rd however brings sudden ups and downs, in life.

Fourth House
The 4th house is called house of mother, property and conveyance. Jupiter in the 4th is generally considered
unfavorable. In a male sign he gives favorable results while in female signs he is infavorable. Jupiter in the 4th is not
good for property as the property inherited is normally destroyed and the native has to exert and acquire own property. One loses one’s father at an early age while fortune does not smile on one during the mother’s lifetime. Such natives whose parents remain alive do not get the benefi t of money. They hardly progress in life and are slow in getting promotions in career. If in business, they face lots of ups and downs in life. Jupiter’s placement in Aries, Leo or Sagittarius creates a desire to have a good house or a bungalow which may remain unfulfilled. One may have only a small house till the end of one’s life while other desires also remain unfulfilled. In the earthy signs of Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn, one enjoys either property or children but not both. In Gemini, Libra or Aquarius, Jupiter creates tension and the native does not have own property. In watery signs, Jupiter gives problems to parents whose condition becomes pitiable and who may face several hardships. In brief, Jupiter in the 4th is not very favorable as one losses inherited property and faces many ups and downs in career.

Fifth House
The 5th house is the house of progeny as well as education. It is considered a Subha Trikona. Jupiter in the 5th gives good results but only when placed in a male sign. When in a female sign it results in lesser number of children and also ailing ones. Jupiter in the 5th does not make its natives very rich or blessed with children. Being the Karaka for progeny as well as wealth, when placed in a benefic house, Karaka Dosha is generated. Even when there are  children they may not prove useful or helpful to parents. Jupiter in fiery Aries or Leo as well as airy signs of Gemini, Libra or Aquarius is favorable from the education point of view. One completes one’s education and may even go in for higher studies. If Jupiter is in Sagittarius, education remains incomplete. In Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces, he makes such natives go in for professions such as judiciary or the law. Such a Jupiter is good for medical and legal profession, while not for progeny as the native may not have children and in case he has, may not derive any benefit from them.

Sixth House
The 6th house is the house of enemies, disease and of the maternal uncle. Jupiter in the 6th gives adverse results when in male signs while favorable results occur in female signs. Such a Jupiter, however, in any sign is not  favorable for the maternal uncle. It is also adverse in the case of doctors and advocates and shows doubtful integrity. In male signs, one would be addicted to gambling, drinking and other vices. One is also prone to diabetis, hernia etc.
Those with Aries, Cancer or Virgo Ascendants face hurdles in life. In Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, it generates debts. It is not favorable in Pisces.

Seventh House
The 7th house is the house of partner, whether in life or business. Jupiter in the 7th is not considered good normally, especially when in a female sign. In male signs, its results have been considered favorble. In fiery signs it is favorable for education and one may even become an intelligent teacher, counsellor, advocate or even join the judiciary. It is good for service in the education department. Jupiter and Aquarius create tensions for progeny. In Taurus or Virgo or Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces it creates hurdles for worldly pleasures and happiness. It also creates marital discord. In many a case, there may be no marriage or the native may always be thinking adversely about marriage. Such results are observed when Jupiter is in a watery sign. In Libra or Capricorn, one may have two marriages. In a female sign, one is inclined towards business while in a male sign one does not have good relations with wife.

Eighth House
The 8th house is the house of longevity or Ayustana as well as of sudden developments. It also rules hidden and unexpected treasure. Jupiter in the 8th when in a female sign gives adverse results while favorable and good results acrue when it is in a male sign. It also results in Bandhana Yoga. Such a Jupiter if in fi ery signs confers a legacy or inherited property. Such natives can also receive sufficient wealth by virtue of holding a high position. If in Gemini or Sagittarius in the 8th, properties in trust may be obtained after the death of the trustee. In Scorpio or Capricorn, Jupiter in the 8th does not give wealth by wedlock. Business witnesses a slump or paternal property may even be lost. Such a Jupiter reduces one’s riches. Jupiter in the 8th however gives long life. But if placed in a malefic or a debilitated sign or aspected by a malefic or debilitated planet it ruins the luck of the native. If in a male sign, the secrets of the family are well guarded as the wife as well as servants will be trustworthy. In a female sign, domestic secrets are leaked out. However such a Jupiter in any sign gives very bad death.

Ninth House
The 9th is a Trikona which denotes fate, Bhagya (fortune) and Karma. Father is also seen from this house. Most writers opine that Jupiter in the 9th gives good results. In actual practice, however, it is seen that when such Jupiter is in fiery signs, the results are good as also in the watery sign of Pisces. The native acquires high qualifications and becomes a preacher, orator or occupies a high position in the judiciary. In other signs, Jupiter normally does not give such good results. Jupiter in the 9th makes one of a quiet nature and truthful. Such a Jupiter in earthy signs confers scientific qualifications and success in business, in airy signs it makes one a writer or a publisher. Jupiter in a watery sign makes the native a lawyer, barrister or occupy a high position in judiciary. Such a Jupiter when in a male sign is not favorable for brothers and sisters or there may be no co-borns. In a female sign, it gives quite a good number of brothers and sisters, but relations may not be smooth with them. Jupiter in the 9th is not conducive to good family relations. Brothers, if staying together, may not be on good terms with each other. If in a male sign there will be less number of children. Jupiter in the 9th is not favorable for sons. Either there is no son or if there is one, he may not survive and in case he survives, he may not have good relations with father. The mother may not survive in the case of a native with Jupiter in the 9th.

Tenth House
The 10th house is the house of career and profession. It is also called Karmastana. Jupiter in the 10th is normally considered good but some are of the view that it gives bad results in airy signs and in Cancer. Jupiter in Capricorn in the 10th gives benefi ts in terms o? money. In any earthy sign or in Libra or Aquarius, the native suffers from various problems like getting into debt, a hand to mouth existence and even imprisonment. Jupiter in the 10th in a male sign gives less number of children, while female sign increases their number.

Eleventh House
The 11th house is the house of gains and benefits. Jupiter in the 11th is quite favorable, but some even opine that Jupiter does give bad results in this house. In fact when in watery signs in the 11th, it does not give good results. It deprives the native of either progeny, property or education. One does not get parental property or it gets destroyed. The sons may go astray or quarrel with the native. They may even come to blows. Jupiter in Cancer, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces deprives the native of progeny, which if born does not survive. A female native may not be capable of bearing a male child. Various problems befall the family — deaths, losses in business, debts etc.

Twelfth House
The 12th house is the house of losses, Moksha, imprisonment and comforts relating to bed as well as confinement. There are controversial views on whether Jupiter in the 12th gives favorable or unfavorable results. In an evil house like the 12th, Jupiter cannot give favorable results.

Conclusion
Though Jupiter is said to be the most benefic planet, yet on the whole, it is apparent he is not always a benefic. He is only a functional benefic. He becomes malefic the moment he is afflicted by combustion, in conjunction with his Neecha sign lord or when conjunct or aspected by more than two malefics or by his placement in the 6th, 8th or
12th. One should also not forget that Jupiter is supposed to give results of his Nakshatra and Navamsa positions. It may also be adversely affected if in Mrityubhaga. Conversely his position in Pushkaramsa and Pushkara Navamsa etc., may increase its beneficence.
